Everything in this world is in someway connected to everything else.
Some things in this world have a greater level of connectivity
than others. I suppose "six degrees of separation" applies to the
natural world as well. We humans are connected as well. All
politics, philosophies, and religions aside, we humans are connected
to everything else in this world. We are precariously close to
losing one of our closest connections in this world. There are
currently less than 800 Mountain Gorillas left on Earth and they are
teetering on the edge of extinction. As I am writing this
mission statement, I am deeply saddened as I have just received an
email that four Mountain Gorillas were just killed recently by
gunfire in the Democratic Republic of the Congo...and so we get
precariously closer to losing our connection day by day...
My mission and my purpose is simple. I am going to raise as much
money as I can to take to Rwanda in October of 2008 to help the
Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project. They
are a conservation organization that is providing care
for an endangered species in its natural habitat. They are also trying to get the people of the region, who will ultimately
determine the Mountain Gorilla's survival in the future, to
understand how important it is to protect them. They are protecting
a critically endangered species, a species in which anyone who
has visited them has said, "I feel like I just visited some distant
relatives I did not know about."
Connectivity.
Let's not lose one of our closest connections in this world. Once it
is gone, it will never come back. let's do it for the gorillas,
for the sake of the connection, for ourselves. After all, someday in
the future when we have lost those connections entirely, and we
realize we are the ones who eliminated the connection, what will we
tell our children? How will they look at us?
Please help me on this mission as the world will never be the same
if they are all gone. I can help, you can help, we all can
help. The Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project is already helping.
The people of Rwanda and Central Africa will hopefully
understand someday soon how critical the Mountain Gorilla is to
their survival and prosperity through conservation and tourism.
I am going to do my part and I ask you to believe in me and join me.
